The Mystery of the Nebra Sky Disk

Many of you may wonder about the small disk on our flyer. It is the Nebra Sky Disk – a 3,600-year-old Bronze Age artifact and the oldest known depiction of the cosmos in Europe. Found just two hours from our festival site, it is now on display at the Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte in Halle.

The disk shows the sun, moon, and stars, including the Pleiades. More than an artwork, it is proof of early European astronomical knowledge, likely used to track solstices and for rituals – a link between humanity and the cosmos.

Its significance as the oldest concrete representation of cosmic phenomena was further recognized in June 2013 when it was added to UNESCO’s ‘Memory of the World’ documentary heritage register.

The summer solstice has always been celebrated with music, dance, and rituals, just as we do. Together, we experience the rhythms of the universe.

A dedicated lecture will explore the history, symbolism, and cultural significance of the Nebra Sky Disk. Join us and be inspired by this ancient relic!

Jörð - The Earth Goddess Awakens

To the ancient Norse, the Earth was more than just soil beneath their feet—it was a living goddess: Jörð. She is the mother of Thor, the sky-bringer, and the force that nurtures all life. Her name has echoed through time, giving meaning to the word "earth" itself.

Our festival embraces this sacred connection with a special lecture and workshop led by an anthropologist, exploring the myths and cultural significance of Jörð. Step into this ancient wisdom and discover the Earth not just as a place, but as a living presence.

Midsummer - A Celebration of Light and Life

Since ancient times, the summer solstice has been a moment of magic, marking the peak of the sun’s power. People have gathered around fire, danced, and honored the rhythms of nature.

From Nordic bonfires to Stonehenge’s sacred alignment, cultures worldwide have embraced this powerful day. Myths tell of gods and spirits who bestow blessings on those who celebrate—like the Norse sun goddess Sól or Slavic rituals invoking prosperity and love. Even today, Midsummer remains a time of renewal and connection.

At the Parvati Gathering, we keep this spirit alive with workshops, lectures, and rituals exploring the myths and traditions of the summer solstice. Details will follow on social media and here on the website.
